A brief summary of some previous works.
One of the latest papers about ontology ranking, Park et al., Ontology selection ranking model for knowledge reuse, 2011.

The paper offers a review of some of the previous methods for searching and ranking ontologies such as:
- Swoogle (http://swoogle.umbc.edu) - works similar as google and ranks ontologies according to referrals and links between ontologies.
- OntoSelect (Buitelaar et al., 2004) - uses dynamically organized ontology libraries, crawls the web and searchers for any new ontologies, it uses Coverage (I believe for now only this one is supported by OntoFinder?), Structure and Connectedness as ranking methods.
- OntoSearch2 (Pan et al., 2006)
- OntoKhoj (Petel et al, 2003)
